Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool before touching internal parts.

Clean filter and coils: Remove and wash the air filter. Clean both evaporator and condenser coils with a soft brush or vacuum.
Check airflow: Ensure intake and exhaust grilles are not blocked. Provide adequate clearance around the unit.
Verify fan speed: Turn the unit on and observe the fan. It should run at a strong, steady speed. If it is slow or intermittent, the fan motor may be failing.
Ambient temperature: Move the unit to a cooler room if it is operating near the upper temperature limit.
Persistent short cycling: If the unit continues to shut off after a few minutes, the compressor overload or compressor itself may be failing. A technician should test these components.
