Possible Causes
Evaporator coil temperature below safe threshold, Operating in a very cold room, Restricted airflow causing coil to freeze, Faulty evaporator temperature sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit if you need to remove covers. Water around the unit can create a shock hazard.
- Understand P1: On many Haier dehumidifiers, P1 indicates the unit is in defrost mode to protect the coil. This is not always a fault; it may clear automatically.
- Check room temperature: Ensure the room is within the operating range (typically above 41–45°F / 5–7°C). Move the unit to a warmer room if necessary.
- Inspect and clean filter: Remove the air filter and wash it with mild soap and water. Let it dry completely before reinstalling. A clogged filter reduces airflow and can cause icing.
- Allow defrosting: Turn the unit off and let it sit for 1–2 hours to allow any ice on the evaporator coil to melt. Place a towel under the unit if needed.
- Restart and monitor: Plug the unit back in and restart. If P1 appears frequently even in a warm room with a clean filter, the evaporator sensor or control board may be misreading temperature and should be checked or replaced.
