Possible Causes

Failed humidity sensor element, Contaminated or wet humidity sensor, Loose humidity sensor connector, Faulty humidity sensing circuit on main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the humidifier and empty the tank before disassembly.

Steps to address E2:

  • Reset the unit: Unplug for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in. Confirm E2 reappears.
  • Locate the humidity sensor: On Homedics digital humidifiers, the RH sensor is usually a small plastic module or open PCB near the air outlet or intake grille, connected by a 2–4 wire harness to the main board.
  • Check for moisture and buildup: If the sensor is directly in the airflow path, it can become damp or coated with mineral dust. Gently wipe the sensor housing and surrounding area with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not soak or spray the sensor.
  • Inspect wiring and connector: Ensure the sensor harness is not pinched and the connector is fully seated on the control board. Reseat the connector once to ensure good contact.
  • Dry the sensor: If the unit was recently overfilled or leaked, allow the sensor area to dry for several hours before retesting.
  • Replace the humidity sensor: If E2 persists, replace the Homedics humidity sensor module for your model. Disconnect the old sensor, install the new one in the same location and orientation, and route the harness as originally installed.
  • Control board check: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the humidity sensing circuit on the main control PCB is likely defective and the board or unit will need replacement.
