Possible Causes
Mold or mildew in water bucket, Slime buildup in drain channel, Dirty evaporator coil, Stagnant water in continuous drain hose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Wear gloves and, if sensitive, a mask when cleaning moldy components.
Steps:
- Clean bucket: Wash the water bucket with warm water and a mild bleach solution (1 part bleach to 10 parts water). Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Disinfect drain channel: Use a small brush and disinfectant to clean the drain spout and surrounding plastic tray.
- Clean coils and filter: Clean the air filter and, if accessible, lightly spray the evaporator coil with a coil cleaner that has antimicrobial properties.
- Flush drain hose: If using a continuous drain, disconnect and flush the hose with hot water and mild bleach, then reconnect with proper slope.
Tip: Periodically empty and clean the bucket even when using continuous drain to prevent odor buildup.
