Possible Causes
Partially blocked evaporator coil, Dirty air filter restricting airflow, Weak compressor, Frost buildup due to faulty defrost sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug before cleaning or opening panels.
Steps:
- Clean filter: Remove and thoroughly clean the air filter.
- Clean coils: Access the evaporator and condenser coils and gently brush off dust and lint. Use a non‑corrosive coil cleaner if heavily soiled.
- Check for icing: Run the unit for 30–60 minutes and inspect the evaporator. If it is heavily iced over, test/replace the defrost or coil temperature sensor.
- Verify fan speed: Ensure the fan is running at full speed and not dragging; replace the fan motor if weak.
Note: If performance remains poor after cleaning and sensor checks, the compressor or refrigerant charge may be degraded, which generally warrants unit replacement.
