Possible Causes
Worn fan motor bearings, Debris caught in blower wheel, Blower wheel rubbing against housing due to misalignment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Do not run it for long with grinding noises; this can cause motor failure.
Steps:
- Access fan assembly: Remove front grille and rear cover to expose the fan motor and blower wheel.
- Debris removal: Inspect for foreign objects (plastic, insulation, wiring) contacting the blower. Remove any obstructions.
- Check alignment: Ensure the blower wheel is centered in its housing and not rubbing. Adjust its position on the motor shaft if needed.
- Spin test: Rotate the blower by hand. If it feels rough or squeals, the motor bearings are likely worn.
- Replace motor: Install an Insignia-compatible fan motor assembly if bearings are noisy or seized.
Note: Lubricating sealed fan motors is usually not effective long-term; replacement is preferred.
