Possible Causes
Mold and mildew buildup on evaporator coil, Dirty drain pan and bucket, Long periods of storage with water left inside
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Wear gloves and a mask if you are sensitive to mold.
Steps:
- Clean bucket: Wash the water bucket with warm soapy water and a small amount of bleach. Rinse thoroughly.
- Access coils and pan: Remove front cover and bucket to expose the evaporator coil and drain pan.
- Clean drain pan: Scrub the pan with a mild bleach solution or coil cleaner designed to remove biological growth. Rinse carefully without flooding electrical parts.
- Coil cleaning: Use a foaming coil cleaner safe for aluminum fins. Follow product instructions and allow to drain into the pan.
- Drying: Let the unit air dry completely before reassembly. Running the fan-only mode for a while after use can help keep it dry in the future.
Tip: Regular cleaning every few months reduces odors and improves air quality.
