Possible Causes

Failed relative humidity sensor in the control panel, Broken or disconnected humidity sensor harness, Corroded sensor connector on display/control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing the control panel or display housing.

Steps:

  • Power cycle: Unplug for 5 minutes and plug back in. If E3 reappears, continue.
  • Access control panel: Remove the bucket and front grille. Remove screws securing the top control panel or front control bezel (varies by Insignia model). Carefully lift the panel, watching for attached wiring.
  • Locate humidity sensor: On many Insignia dehumidifiers, the RH sensor is a small module or board near the air intake behind the control panel, connected by a small harness to the main PCB.
  • Inspect and reseat: Check the harness for damage or pulled wires. Unplug and replug the connector firmly. Clean any visible corrosion with contact cleaner.
  • Visual check: Ensure the sensor is not blocked by dust or lint. Gently blow off debris with compressed air; do not soak with liquids.
  • Replace sensor: If E3 persists, replace the humidity sensor module with an Insignia-compatible RH sensor for your model. Mount it in the same location and orientation so it samples room air correctly.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the control panel and covers, restore power, and verify that the E3 code is cleared and that the unit responds to humidity setpoint changes.

Tip: If the sensor is integrated into the main control board on your model, the entire control PCB may need replacement.
