Dehumidifier shows E5 and will not start the compressor

Safety: Unplug the unit. The compressor and nearby tubing can be very hot; allow to cool before touching.

Steps:

• Ventilation check: Ensure the unit is not in a confined space. Provide at least 12–18 inches of clearance on all sides and keep it away from heat sources.
• Filter and coil cleaning: Clean the air filter and vacuum dust from the intake and exhaust grilles. Dirty coils can cause overheating.
• Cool-down reset: Leave the unit unplugged for 30–60 minutes to allow the compressor overload to reset. Then plug in and test.
• Listen for compressor: If the fan runs but the compressor never starts and E5 appears again, the overload protector or control board may be faulty.
• Internal checks (advanced): With power disconnected, remove the rear panel to access the compressor terminals and overload protector. Inspect for burnt connectors or melted plastic. Do not open the sealed system.
• Replace overload (if accessible): If the overload protector is a separate clip-on device and shows signs of damage, replace it with an Insignia-compatible compressor overload for your model.

Important: If the compressor is locked or drawing excessive current, further operation can be unsafe. In that case, a professional diagnosis of the sealed system and compressor is required.
