Possible Causes

Failed fan motor, Obstructed blower wheel, Loose fan motor connector, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Fan blades and metal edges can be sharp; wear gloves.

Steps:

  • Check for obstructions: Remove the front grille and bucket. Look for debris, plastic, or wiring interfering with the fan blade or blower wheel. Remove any obstructions.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. If it is stiff or seized, the motor bearings may be bad.
  • Access fan motor: Remove the rear or top cover to expose the fan motor assembly. Inspect the motor bracket and wiring.
  • Verify connections: Ensure the fan motor plug is fully seated on the control board and wires are not damaged.
  • Test motor (advanced): With the unit unplugged, check motor winding resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • Replace fan motor: If the motor is seized or electrically open, replace it with an Insignia-compatible fan motor assembly, transferring the blower wheel if necessary.

Warning: Do not bypass safety circuits to force the fan to run; this can damage the compressor and create a fire hazard.
