P1
Insignia Defrost Mode Active (Low Coil Temperature Protection)

Dehumidifier displays P1 and stops collecting water

Possible Causes

Evaporator coil temperature below safe operating range, Room temperature too low for normal dehumidification, Frost buildup on evaporator coil, Faulty defrost sensor reading low

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Note: On many Insignia dehumidifiers, P1 is not a fault but an indication that the unit is in automatic defrost mode.

Steps:

  • Allow defrost cycle: Leave the unit plugged in and powered on. The compressor will stop while the fan may continue running to melt ice from the coil. This can take 10–30 minutes.
  • Check room temperature: Dehumidifiers typically require room temperatures above about 41–45°F (5–7°C). If the room is colder, move the unit to a warmer area.
  • Inspect for icing: Remove the bucket and front grille to visually check the evaporator coil. If it is heavily iced, let it fully defrost with the unit unplugged.
  • Improve airflow: Clean the air filter and ensure intake and exhaust grilles are not blocked.
  • Sensor issue: If P1 appears constantly even in a warm room and with a clean filter, the coil temperature sensor may be faulty and require replacement.

When to service: Continuous P1 with no visible icing and normal room temperature suggests a bad defrost sensor or control board.
