Possible Causes
Overheated compressor, Faulty compressor thermal protector, Blocked condenser coil or fan, Low or high refrigerant pressure condition
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. The compressor and discharge line can be very hot; allow cooling before touching nearby components.
- Ventilation check: Ensure the dehumidifier is placed with adequate clearance around the air outlet and intake (typically at least 20–30 cm from walls). Remove any obstructions.
- Clean condenser and filter: Remove and wash the air filter. Access the condenser coil (warm coil) and gently vacuum or brush off dust buildup. Blocked airflow can cause compressor overheat.
- Fan operation: Plug the unit back in and observe if the fan runs normally. If the fan is not running or is very slow, the compressor will overheat. In that case, inspect and replace the condenser fan motor or fan capacitor as needed.
- Thermal protector: With power disconnected, locate the compressor’s thermal protector (small device clipped to the compressor shell or wired to its terminals). Check for loose connections or burn marks. A failed protector must be replaced with the correct Inventor compressor overload protector.
- If E5 persists: Repeated E5 after cleaning and fan repair may indicate a sealed system problem (refrigerant charge, compressor failure). This requires a licensed refrigeration technician.
