Possible Causes
Low refrigerant charge due to leak, weak compressor, dirty evaporator or condenser coils, fan not running at full speed, room too cold for effective dehumidification, humidity sensor misreading
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug before cleaning or internal inspection.
Steps:
- Check room conditions: If the room is already dry or very cold, water collection will be minimal. Use a hygrometer to confirm humidity above 50%.
- Clean filter and coils: Wash the air filter and vacuum dust from both the front evaporator coil and rear condenser coil.
- Verify fan and compressor: When running, you should feel warm air from the exhaust and hear the compressor. If only the fan runs and air is not warm, see the "Compressor Not Starting" scenario.
- Check for icing: Inspect the evaporator coil after 30–60 minutes. Heavy ice indicates airflow or refrigerant issues.
- Professional service: If coils are clean, fan and compressor run, but no water is collected and the coil does not get evenly cold, the unit may have a refrigerant leak or weak compressor. This requires a certified technician; often replacement of the dehumidifier is more economical.
