Possible Causes
Blocked air filter or condenser coil causing overheating, Failed condenser fan motor, Low or high refrigerant charge (sealed system issue), Faulty compressor overload protector or main PCB control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system (copper lines, compressor) unless you are a certified refrigeration technician.
- Improve airflow: Remove and clean the air filter with mild soap and water; let it dry completely. Vacuum dust from the condenser coil (the warm coil near the back) using a soft brush attachment.
- Check fan operation: With the covers back on, plug in and start the unit. Observe through the grille: the fan must run whenever the compressor is commanded on. If the fan is not spinning or is slow, suspect a failed fan motor or capacitor.
- Allow cool-down: If the unit has been running in a very hot room, let it cool for 30–60 minutes unplugged, then retry. A tripped thermal protector may reset.
- Inspect fan motor: Unplug, remove the rear cover, and check the fan blades for obstructions. Spin the fan by hand; it should move freely. If stiff or noisy, replace the fan motor assembly.
- Persistent E5: If airflow is good and the fan works but E5 returns quickly, the compressor may be drawing excessive current or the system pressure is abnormal. This typically requires a professional to check refrigerant charge, compressor health, and high-pressure protection circuits.
