Possible Causes
Shorted compressor windings, Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Faulty current-sensing circuit on main PCB, Short circuit in compressor wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
High-voltage safety: Unplug the unit. Compressor and mains circuits can be lethal. If you are not experienced with electrical measurements, contact a professional.
- Visual inspection: Remove the rear cover to access the compressor compartment. Look for burnt wires, melted connectors, or a burnt smell near the compressor or PCB.
- Check compressor wiring: Ensure all spade connectors on the compressor terminals and overload protector are tight and not discolored.
- Test compressor (advanced): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the compressor terminals and measure resistance between each pair. Very low resistance (near 0 Ω) or continuity to ground indicates a shorted compressor, which requires professional replacement.
- Inspect start device: Many Klarstein units use a PTC start relay or electronic module. If cracked, burnt, or rattling when shaken, replace the compressor start device with the correct part.
- PCB fault: If compressor and wiring test normal but E9 persists, the main PCB’s current-sensing or relay circuit may be defective and should be replaced.
