Possible Causes
Blocked air outlet or intake, Fan not running or obstructed, Failed overheat thermostat or thermal fuse, Dust buildup on internal components causing poor cooling, Faulty main PCB temperature monitoring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before inspection.
Steps:
- Check airflow: Ensure the air outlet and intake grills are not blocked by walls, curtains, or dust. Clean grills with a soft brush or vacuum.
- Inspect fan operation: With the tank removed and the cover off (if accessible), briefly plug in and power on to see if the internal fan spins freely. Immediately unplug after checking.
- Clean fan and vents: Unplug again. Use compressed air or a soft brush to remove dust from the fan blades and surrounding area.
- Check thermal device: Many Levoit units have a thermal fuse or thermostat attached to the heater or ultrasonic module. Inspect for discoloration or burn marks. A blown thermal fuse will need replacement.
- Replace faulty parts: If the fan does not run, replace the fan motor assembly. If the thermal fuse or thermostat is open (no continuity), replace it with the same rating. If E4 persists with good airflow and new safety devices, the main PCB may be misreading temperature and should be replaced.
