Dehumidifier fan runs but there is a strong musty or moldy smell from the air outlet

Safety: Unplug the unit. Wear gloves and, if sensitive, a mask when cleaning moldy components.

Steps:

• Clean water tank: Wash the water collection tank with warm soapy water and a small amount of disinfectant. Rinse thoroughly.
• Clean filter: Remove and wash or replace the air filter according to the manual.
• Clean coils and drain: Access the evaporator coil and drain tray. Use a coil-safe cleaner or mild detergent solution to clean visible mold and slime. Rinse carefully without flooding electrical parts.
• Flush pump tray (if fitted): Clean the internal pump tray and hoses to remove stagnant water.
• Drying run: After reassembly, run the unit in a well-ventilated area for several hours to help dry internal surfaces.
