Possible Causes
Dirty evaporator or condenser coils, Low refrigerant charge due to leak, Failing compressor, Blocked air filter or restricted airflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning or opening panels.
Steps:
- Check humidity and temperature: Ensure the room humidity is actually high and the temperature is within the unit’s operating range. Dehumidifiers remove less water in cool rooms.
- Clean air filter: Remove and wash the filter with mild detergent. Dry completely and reinstall.
- Clean coils: Access the evaporator and condenser coils and gently clean dust and lint with a soft brush and vacuum.
- Verify fan operation: Confirm the fan runs at normal speed and airflow from the outlet is strong.
- Observe frost: Run the unit for 20–30 minutes. If the evaporator does not get uniformly cool or only a small section frosts, there may be a refrigerant issue.
- Professional service: If cleaning and airflow checks do not restore performance, a refrigeration technician should test for leaks, check the compressor, and service the sealed system.
