Possible Causes
Low refrigerant charge (leak), Blocked capillary tube, Severely dirty evaporator or condenser, Failing compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to cut or open refrigerant lines.
Steps:
- Clean coils: Remove covers as per the service manual and gently clean both the evaporator coil and condenser coil with a soft brush and vacuum. Ensure fins are not bent.
- Check fan operation: Confirm the fan runs smoothly at normal speed. Poor airflow can mimic a refrigerant fault.
- Observe operation: After reassembly, run the unit for 15–20 minutes. Check if the evaporator gets uniformly cool and if water is collecting. If EC reappears and there is little or no condensation, a refrigerant issue is likely.
- Professional service: Low refrigerant, leaks, or capillary blockages must be diagnosed and repaired by a certified refrigeration technician. They may need to replace the evaporator coil, condenser coil, or compressor and recharge the system.
