Possible Causes
Overheated compressor thermal protector open, Blocked condenser airflow, Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Faulty compressor winding
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system.
- Ventilation check: Ensure the rear and side air inlets/outlets are not blocked. Clean dust from the condenser coil and grille with a vacuum and soft brush.
- Room conditions: Verify the unit is used within the specified ambient temperature range from the Medisana manual. Very high room temperatures can trigger E5.
- Inspect fan operation: Plug in briefly and check if the fan runs. If the fan is not running, the compressor will overheat. See fan-related entries for repair.
- Internal components: With power disconnected, remove the cover and locate the compressor terminals, overload protector, and PTC start device. Check for burnt smell, discoloration, or melted plastic. Replace the compressor overload/relay assembly if visibly damaged and compatible parts are available.
- If E5 persists: The compressor itself may be failing or the control board may be misreading current. This requires professional service with proper tools and should not be attempted by untrained users.
