Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay/overload, Open compressor winding, Faulty main control board relay, Low ambient temperature preventing start
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and allow the compressor to cool before touching.
- Check temperature and settings: Ensure the room is warm enough (above ~65°F/18°C) and the humidity setpoint is below current room humidity.
- Listen for compressor: When the unit calls for dehumidification, listen for a click and low hum. No sound may indicate a control or relay issue.
- Inspect start device: Access the compressor and remove the start relay/overload. Check for burn marks or rattling. Replace if suspect.
- Test compressor windings: With the start device removed and unit unplugged, measure resistance between compressor terminals (C-R, C-S, R-S). Infinite or zero readings indicate a bad compressor.
- Check board relay: Inspect the compressor relay on the main PCB for burn marks. If the relay is not energizing despite a call for cooling, replace the board.
- Technician needed: If the compressor windings are open or shorted, the compressor must be replaced by a professional.
