Possible Causes
Dirty air filter or coils restricting airflow, Low refrigerant charge due to leak, Frost buildup on evaporator, Faulty humidity sensor misreading humidity
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug before cleaning or inspecting internal components.
- Clean filter and coils: Wash the air filter and gently clean both evaporator and condenser coils with a soft brush or coil cleaner.
- Check for icing: After running for 30–60 minutes, inspect the evaporator. Light, even frost is normal; heavy ice or only partial frosting suggests issues. Defrost fully by unplugging if iced.
- Verify room conditions: Ensure doors/windows are closed and the space is not too large for the unit's capacity.
- Test humidity sensor: Compare the unit's humidity reading with a separate hygrometer. If readings are far off, replace the humidity sensor.
- Suspected refrigerant leak: If coils are only slightly cool, with no significant condensation, and performance has declined over time, a refrigerant leak is likely. Contact a technician for sealed system diagnosis.
