Possible Causes

Overheated compressor due to poor ventilation, Blocked condenser coil, Low or high refrigerant charge, Faulty compressor thermal protector or sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to open or recharge the sealed refrigerant system yourself.

  • Improve ventilation: Ensure the dehumidifier has at least 12–18 inches of clearance on all sides. Do not operate it inside a closet or enclosed space.
  • Clean condenser coil: Remove the rear panel to access the warm condenser coil. Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust and lint from the fins.
  • Check ambient temperature: Many Midea dehumidifiers are designed for operation above ~41°F (5°C). Using them in very cold rooms can cause abnormal pressures and trigger E8.
  • Inspect compressor area: Look for signs of overheating (discolored wiring, melted insulation). Ensure the compressor is not tightly wrapped or blocked from airflow.
  • Reset: Allow the unit to cool for 30–60 minutes unplugged. Then plug in and test. If E8 returns quickly, there may be a refrigerant or compressor fault.
  • Technician service: Persistent E8 after cleaning and cooling suggests a sealed system problem (overcharge, undercharge, restriction, or failing compressor). Contact a qualified technician for pressure and leak checks.
