Possible Causes

Blocked air filter or grilles, failed fan motor reducing airflow, clogged condenser coil, faulty temperature sensor near compressor, main PCB misreading temperature

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before working on it.

Steps:

  • Clean filter: Remove and wash the air filter with mild detergent. Dry completely before reinstalling.
  • Check airflow: Ensure intake and exhaust grilles are not blocked by furniture, curtains, or dust buildup. Vacuum the condenser coil at the rear.
  • Verify fan operation: Turn the unit on and confirm that the fan runs at all selected speeds. If the fan is slow or stops, the indoor fan motor may be failing.
  • Sensor check (technician): Inspect and test the compressor discharge or cabinet temperature sensor for correct resistance. Replace if out of spec.
  • PCB: If sensors and fan are good but F5 persists, the main control PCB may be falsely detecting overheat and should be replaced.
