Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay, Open thermal overload protector, Faulty compressor windings, Defective main PCB relay or triac
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Compressor circuits carry mains voltage.
Steps:
- Confirm settings: Set humidity to a low value and ensure the room humidity is above the setpoint. Some units delay compressor start by a few minutes; wait at least 3–5 minutes.
- Listen for clicks: When the compressor should start, listen for a relay click. No click may indicate a PCB issue.
- Inspect compressor wiring: With covers removed, check that all wires to the compressor, overload protector, and start relay are secure.
- Check overload and relay (advanced): Test continuity of the overload protector and start relay. Replace if open or burnt.
- Compressor test: Measure compressor winding resistances if you are trained to do so. Shorted or open windings mean the compressor must be replaced by a refrigeration technician.
- PCB replacement: If the compressor and start components are good, the main PCB may not be sending power to the compressor and will need replacement.
