Possible Causes

Evaporator sensor reading below safe limit, Unit operating in too cold environment, Sensor out of position causing false low reading, Faulty evaporator NTC sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before internal inspection.

Steps:

  • Check room temperature: Ensure the unit is used within the specified operating range (typically above 5–7°C). If the room is too cold, move the unit to a warmer area.
  • Inspect evaporator sensor placement: Access the evaporator coil and verify that the NTC sensor is properly attached to the coil, not hanging in free air. Reattach with aluminum tape or the original clip if needed.
  • Defrost the coil: If the evaporator is iced over, turn the unit off and allow it to thaw completely. Clean the air filter and ensure good airflow to reduce future icing.
  • Sensor test: If E8 appears even at normal room temperatures and with a clean filter, test or replace the evaporator NTC sensor as described for E2.
  • Control board: Persistent false E8 with a good sensor may indicate a faulty main PCB, which should be replaced by a technician.
