Dehumidifier displays E5 and will not dehumidify

Safety: Unplug the dehumidifier. High voltage is present around the compressor and capacitor; if unsure, contact a technician.

Steps:

• Allow cooling: Let the unit sit unplugged for at least 30 minutes to cool the compressor.
• Check supply voltage: Ensure the outlet provides stable voltage within the range specified on the rating label. Avoid extension cords.
• Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear or side panel to expose the compressor, start relay/PTC, and capacitor.
• Inspect wiring and connectors: Look for burnt terminals, melted plastic on the PTC/relay, or bulged capacitor casing.
• Test capacitor (if equipped and if you have a meter with capacitance): Compare measured value to the µF rating printed on the capacitor. Replace if more than ±10–15% off or if physically damaged.
• Check compressor terminals: With power disconnected, remove the PTC/relay and measure resistance between compressor pins. Very low resistance to ground or between pins may indicate a shorted compressor.
• Replace start components: If the compressor tests reasonably and the PTC/relay or capacitor looks suspect, replace them with Orbegozo-compatible parts.
• Professional evaluation: If E5 persists and the compressor is noisy, locked, or tests shorted, the compressor or main PCB likely needs replacement by a professional.
