Possible Causes
Defective defrost NTC sensor, Sensor not attached to evaporator, Damaged sensor wiring, Main PCB defrost control failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before working near the coils.
Steps:
- Allow ice to melt: Leave the unit off until all ice on the evaporator has melted. Place towels to catch water.
- Check ambient temperature: Ensure the room is not below the minimum operating temperature (often around 5°C). Very cold rooms cause excessive icing.
- Locate defrost sensor: It is usually clipped to the evaporator coil or tubing, separate from the main evaporator NTC.
- Verify attachment: Make sure the sensor is firmly in contact with the coil/tube. Reattach with a clip or aluminum tape if loose.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Look for damage or corrosion. Reseat the connector on the main PCB.
- Measure resistance: Compare resistance to the evaporator NTC at the same temperature. A reading of open or short indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace defrost sensor: Install a new Orbegozo-compatible defrost NTC sensor if faulty.
- PCB diagnosis: If sensors and wiring are good but E8 persists, the defrost control circuit on the main PCB may be defective and require replacement.
