Possible Causes

Low refrigerant charge due to leak, Blocked capillary tube, Faulty low-pressure sensor (if equipped), Severely iced evaporator

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: The refrigeration circuit is sealed and under pressure. Do not cut or open any copper lines yourself.

Steps:

  • Check for icing: Inspect the evaporator coil. If it is heavily iced, allow it to defrost completely and ensure the room temperature is within the operating range.
  • Clean filters and coils: Dirty filters and coils can cause abnormal pressures. Clean the air filter and gently brush dust from coils.
  • Listen for compressor: When turned on, check if the compressor runs or stops quickly. Rapid cycling with EC may indicate a pressure protection trip.
  • Look for oil stains: Oil spots on copper tubing or joints can indicate a refrigerant leak.
  • Professional service required: If EC persists, a certified refrigeration technician must check system pressures, locate leaks, and recharge with the correct refrigerant. This cannot be safely done at home.
