Possible Causes
Loose fan wheel on motor shaft, Foreign object in blower housing, Worn fan motor bearings, Loose compressor mounting bolts or rubber grommets
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before opening. Beware of sharp metal edges.
- Locate noise source: Remove the cover and run the unit briefly (if safe) to identify whether the noise comes from the fan or compressor area. Then unplug again.
- Check fan wheel: Inspect the blower wheel for cracks or looseness on the shaft. Tighten or replace if necessary.
- Remove debris: Clear any objects or wires contacting the fan blades.
- Compressor mounts: Check that the compressor is firmly mounted on its rubber grommets and that none are missing or broken.
If motor bearings are worn (squealing or grinding persists), replace the fan motor assembly.
