Possible Causes
Dirty water tank, Biofilm in internal drain tray, Dirty air filter and evaporator coil, Standing water left in unit between uses
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage plastic parts.
Steps to remove odors:
- Clean water tank: Remove the tank and wash it with warm water and mild detergent. For stubborn odors, soak with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
- Clean internal tray: With the tank removed, wipe the internal water collection tray with a cloth dampened with mild detergent or vinegar solution.
- Clean filter and coil: Wash the air filter. If accessible, gently clean the front of the evaporator coil with a soft brush and a coil-safe cleaner.
- Dry between uses: When storing the unit, empty the tank and run the fan-only mode (if available) for 30 minutes to dry the interior.
- Repeat periodically: Regular cleaning every few weeks in heavy use will prevent odor recurrence.
