Possible Causes
Overheated compressor due to blocked airflow, Failed compressor overload protector, High ambient temperature around unit, Faulty main control board misreading compressor current
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before touching internal components. The compressor and surrounding parts can be very hot.
- Allow cooling: Turn the unit off and unplug it for at least 30–60 minutes to let the compressor cool down.
- Improve ventilation: Ensure the dehumidifier has at least 8–12 inches of clearance on all sides and is not placed in a confined closet or against curtains or walls.
- Clean filter and coils: Remove and wash the air filter. If accessible, gently vacuum dust from the condenser coil (warm coil near the compressor) to improve heat dissipation.
- Check room temperature: Avoid operating the unit in rooms above the maximum rated temperature (often around 95°F / 35°C).
- Restart: After cooling and cleaning, plug the unit back in and test. If E5 reappears quickly, the compressor overload protector or control board may be faulty.
- Component replacement: Replacing the compressor overload or main control PCB is an advanced repair and may not be cost-effective on small consumer units; consider professional service.
