Possible Causes
Low or lost refrigerant charge, Failed compressor, Severely iced evaporator coil, Room temperature too low for dehumidification
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before internal inspection. Do not tamper with sealed refrigerant lines.
- Check room conditions: Ensure the room temperature is within the operating range (typically above 41–50°F / 5–10°C). Dehumidifiers are ineffective in cold rooms.
- Verify bucket and drain: Make sure the bucket is properly installed and not bypassed by a continuous drain hose that is incorrectly routed.
- Observe coils: With the cover removed (if safe), run the unit briefly. The evaporator coil should become cool and may lightly frost, while the condenser coil becomes warm. If both remain at room temperature, the compressor or refrigerant system has failed.
- Defrost if iced: If the evaporator is a solid block of ice, unplug the unit and allow it to fully defrost. Clean the filter and ensure good airflow, then retest.
- Professional repair: If the compressor runs but no cooling occurs, or if it does not start at all, sealed-system service is required. For compact Pure Enrichment dehumidifiers, replacement is often more economical than compressor repair.
