Possible Causes
Standing water left in tank and base for extended periods, Infrequent cleaning of reservoir and mist outlet, Use of tap water leading to biofilm buildup, Dirty sponge or wick (for evaporative models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and remove the tank before cleaning. Avoid inhaling cleaning fumes directly.
- Disassemble for cleaning: Remove the tank, mist nozzle, and any detachable parts. Empty all water from the tank and base.
- Deep clean with vinegar: Fill the tank halfway with a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water. Swirl and let sit for 20–30 minutes. Pour some of this solution into the base reservoir as well.
- Scrub surfaces: Use a soft brush or cloth to scrub the inside of the tank, base, and mist outlet. Pay special attention to corners and seams where slime accumulates.
- Rinse thoroughly: Rinse all parts with clean water until the vinegar smell is minimal. Do not submerge the electrical base.
- Replace wicks or filters: If your Pure Enrichment model uses a wick or filter, replace it if it smells musty or shows discoloration.
- Prevent recurrence: Empty and dry the tank and base daily when in use, and perform a deep clean at least weekly. Use distilled water to reduce mineral and microbial growth.
