Possible Causes
Stagnant water in tank, infrequent cleaning, biofilm in reservoir, contaminated wick or filter (if equipped)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning. Avoid inhaling cleaning chemicals.
- Empty and rinse: Empty the tank and base reservoir completely. Rinse with warm water.
- Deep clean: Fill the tank with a mixture of water and white vinegar (or manufacturer-approved cleaner). Let it sit for 30–60 minutes, then scrub all surfaces with a soft brush.
- Clean base: Wipe the base reservoir with the same solution, paying attention to corners and seams.
- Replace filters: If your Rowenta model uses a wick or antibacterial cartridge, replace it according to the manual.
- Dry thoroughly: Allow all parts to air dry before reassembly.
- Prevent recurrence: Use fresh water daily and perform a full cleaning at least weekly during heavy use.
