Dehumidifier fan runs but there is a loud rattling or scraping noise

Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the fan. Beware of sharp metal and plastic edges.

Steps:

• Inspect fan area: Remove the front or rear cover to expose the fan. Look for foreign objects (cable ties, plastic, insulation) contacting the blades.
• Tighten fan blade: If the fan blade is loose on the shaft, tighten the retaining screw or clip. If the hub is cracked, replace the fan blade / impeller.
• Check motor bearings: Spin the fan by hand. Grinding or wobbling indicates worn bearings; replace the fan motor assembly.
• Reassemble carefully: Ensure no wires are routed too close to the fan before closing the cabinet.
