Possible Causes
Failed evaporator NTC sensor, Loose or corroded sensor connector, Damaged sensor cable from evaporator to PCB, Faulty main control PCB sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Disconnect the appliance from the mains before opening any panels. Avoid touching sharp metal fins on the evaporator.
Diagnostic and repair steps:
- Reset the unit: Unplug for 10 minutes, then reconnect. If E2 returns immediately, proceed with inspection.
- Access the evaporator sensor: Remove the front or rear cover (depending on model). The evaporator NTC sensor is usually clipped or strapped to the evaporator coil tubing or fins, near the middle of the coil.
- Check physical condition: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil and not hanging loose. Look for broken insulation, crushed wires, or corrosion at the connector.
- Measure resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the PCB and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature, it should be in the expected kΩ range (consult service data if available). Open circuit or near-zero readings indicate a bad sensor.
- Clean and reseat: If resistance is normal, clean the connector with contact cleaner and reseat it securely on the main PCB.
- Replace sensor if needed: Install a new Russell Hobbs evaporator NTC sensor if the original is defective. Clip it tightly to the coil in the same position to ensure accurate temperature sensing.
- PCB check: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the main control PCB may be faulty and should be replaced or tested by a professional.
