Possible Causes
Failed digital humidity sensor module, Disconnected or damaged humidity sensor harness, Contaminated sensor from dust or moisture ingress, Faulty main PCB humidity input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before opening the housing. Do not spray liquids directly into the control panel area.
Steps:
- Power cycle: Unplug for 5–10 minutes and reconnect. If E3 persists, continue.
- Locate humidity sensor: On many Russell Hobbs dehumidifiers, the humidity sensor is mounted behind the front grille or near the air intake, often on a small daughter board connected to the main PCB by a ribbon or 3–5 wire harness.
- Inspect for contamination: Remove the front grille and visually inspect the sensor. Look for heavy dust, lint, or signs of water damage.
- Clean the sensor area: Use a soft brush and dry compressed air to gently clean dust from the sensor and surrounding area. Do not use water or aggressive cleaners.
- Check connections: Ensure the sensor plug is fully seated on the main PCB. Look for bent pins or corrosion.
- Replace sensor module: If E3 remains, replace the Russell Hobbs humidity sensor module or sensor board with the correct part for your model. Transfer any mounting clips or brackets from the old sensor.
- PCB suspicion: If a new sensor does not resolve E3, the main control PCB may be defective and require replacement by a technician.
