Possible Causes

Low refrigerant charge due to leak, Blocked capillary tube or expansion device, Faulty evaporator or ambient sensor correlation, Failing compressor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to open or recharge the sealed refrigeration system yourself.

User-level checks:

  • Clean filters and airflow paths: Remove and clean the air filter. Ensure intake and exhaust grilles are unobstructed.
  • Check room temperature: Ensure the unit is operating within the specified ambient temperature range. Very low or very high temperatures can trigger EC.
  • Reset: Unplug for 10–15 minutes and restart. If EC returns, further diagnosis is needed.

Technical checks (for professionals):

  • Check coil temperatures: Run the unit and measure evaporator and condenser temperatures. Abnormal readings may indicate low charge or restriction.
  • Sensor correlation: Verify both ambient and evaporator NTC sensors are reading correctly and correlate with actual temperatures. Replace any faulty sensors.
  • Leak and charge: If low refrigerant is suspected, perform a leak test, repair leaks, evacuate, and recharge with the correct refrigerant and weight as per the rating label.

Because EC often indicates a sealed system problem, contact an authorised Russell Hobbs service centre or refrigeration technician.
