Possible Causes

Failed cross-flow or axial fan motor, blocked fan wheel, broken fan blade, faulty fan motor capacitor (if used), fan tachometer feedback failure to main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Beware of sharp metal edges around the fan housing.

Steps:

  • Check for obstructions: Remove the front grille and filter. Look for plastic bags, debris, or ice blocking the fan wheel.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding or rubbing. If it binds, remove the housing and clear obstructions or replace the fan assembly.
  • Access fan motor: Remove the rear or side panel to expose the fan motor and bracket. Inspect the fan blade or cross-flow wheel for cracks or imbalance.
  • Electrical check: Inspect the fan motor wiring harness and connector at the main PCB. Reseat the connector.
  • Power test (advanced): With the unit reassembled enough for safe operation and using extreme caution, power the unit and listen/observe if the fan attempts to start. If it hums but does not spin, the motor or its capacitor is likely bad.
  • Replace parts: Install a new fan motor assembly and, if separate, a new fan capacitor specified for your Sharp model.

Note: Do not bypass safety interlocks or run the unit with covers removed unless you are experienced and can do so safely.
