Stagnant water left in tank for days, Dirty filter or wick, Lack of regular cleaning, Warm environment promoting bacteria
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and empty all water.
- Deep clean tank: Fill the tank with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water. Let sit for 30 minutes, then scrub with a soft bottle brush and rinse thoroughly.
- Clean base and tray: Wipe all wet surfaces in the base with vinegar or a mild unscented disinfectant safe for plastics. Do not get liquid on the control electronics.
- Replace filter: For evaporative models, replace the filter cassette if it smells musty or shows visible mold.
- Dry between uses: When not using the humidifier for more than a day, empty the tank and base and let them air dry to prevent regrowth.
