Possible Causes

Base running without water, Failed thermal sensor in base, Blocked air outlet causing heat buildup, Faulty overheat protection circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the humidifier and allow it to cool before handling.

Steps:

  • Check water level: Ensure the tank is filled and properly seated. Many TaoTronics humidifiers will trigger overheat protection if the transducer runs dry.
  • Clean base: Remove any scale or residue from the base water chamber that might interfere with temperature sensing.
  • Inspect thermal sensor: In the base, locate the small NTC temperature sensor or thermal fuse near the transducer. Check for loose wiring or damage.
  • Reset and test: After cooling and refilling, plug in and restart. If E3 returns quickly, the thermal sensor or PCB may be faulty.
  • Replace sensor or PCB: Replace the base NTC temperature sensor or thermal fuse if open. If the sensor is good, replace the main control PCB.
