Possible Causes

Obstructed fan wheel, Failed fan motor, Loose fan motor connector, Faulty fan drive circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before working near the fan. Fan blades can be sharp; wear gloves.

Steps:

  • Check for obstructions: Remove the rear or side panel to access the cross-flow or axial fan assembly. Look for plastic bags, filter material, or debris jammed in the fan wheel.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding or tight spots. If it is stiff or seized, the fan motor bearings may have failed.
  • Inspect wiring: Confirm the fan motor connector is fully seated on the main PCB and that wires are not cut or pinched.
  • Power-on observation: With panels still off but keeping hands clear, plug in and start the unit. Observe whether the fan attempts to start. If it hums but does not turn, the motor is likely bad.
  • Replace fan motor: Remove the mounting screws and disconnect the wiring to install a new TaoTronics fan motor assembly (cross-flow or axial type depending on model). Transfer the fan wheel if it is separate from the motor.
  • If a known-good motor does not run: The main control PCB fan driver may be defective and require replacement.
