Possible Causes
Shorted compressor windings, Shorted fan motor, Damaged wiring harness causing short to chassis, Faulty current sensing circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Overcurrent conditions can be hazardous. Do not bypass fuses or safety devices.
Steps:
- Visual inspection: Remove the rear panel and inspect wiring around the compressor, fan motor, and main PCB. Look for burnt insulation, melted connectors, or signs of arcing.
- Check harness routing: Ensure wires are not pinched between panels or rubbing against sharp metal edges.
- Isolate components (advanced): If you have electrical experience and a multimeter, you can disconnect the compressor and fan motor one at a time and test for continuity to ground. Any winding that shows continuity to the metal chassis is shorted and the component must be replaced.
- Replace shorted parts: A shorted fan motor or compressor will typically require replacement of that component. Compressor replacement is a sealed-system repair and should be done by a professional.
- If no shorts are found: The main control PCB current sensing circuit may be faulty and falsely detecting overcurrent. Replace the PCB if wiring and loads test normal.
