Possible Causes
Dirty air filter, Blocked evaporator or condenser coils, Low refrigerant charge, Failing compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning or opening panels.
- Check humidity and temperature: Ensure the room is actually humid (above ~50% RH) and within the operating temperature range. In cool, dry conditions, little water will be collected.
- Clean filter and coils: Remove and wash the air filter. Vacuum dust from the evaporator and condenser coils using a soft brush attachment.
- Verify fan operation: Turn the unit on and confirm the fan runs at full speed. A weak or non-running fan will reduce performance.
- Check for icing: Inspect the evaporator for ice buildup. If present, improve airflow and ensure room temperature is not too low.
- Sealed system issues: If airflow is good and coils are clean but performance remains poor, the unit may have low refrigerant or a weak compressor. This requires professional diagnosis and may not be economical to repair on smaller units.
