Possible Causes
Shorted evaporator sensor, Open evaporator sensor, Loose sensor clip on evaporator coil, Faulty main PCB sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before opening the cabinet. Coil fins are sharp; wear gloves.
- Reset the unit: Unplug for 5–10 minutes and restart. If E2 returns immediately, proceed with inspection.
- Access the evaporator: Remove the front grille and filter. Remove the housing screws and carefully pull the front shell off to expose the evaporator coil.
- Locate the sensor: Find the small probe clipped to the evaporator coil (often wrapped or taped to the tubing). Ensure it is firmly attached and not dangling.
- Inspect wiring: Trace the sensor wires back to the main PCB. Look for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or signs of moisture damage. Reseat the connector on the PCB.
- Test the sensor: With the sensor unplugged and the unit still disconnected from power, measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to TCL’s temperature-resistance chart. Replace the sensor if it reads open or shorted.
- Replace sensor: Install a TCL-compatible evaporator NTC sensor, clip it securely to the coil, and route the wires away from the fan and sharp edges.
- PCB evaluation: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the main control board is likely defective and should be replaced.
