Possible Causes

Shorted compressor windings, Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Faulty run capacitor, Defective main control board power relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. High voltage is present at the compressor terminals. Only work on these components if you are comfortable with electrical testing.

  • Allow cooling: If the unit has been running continuously, let it cool for 30–60 minutes and try again. A tripped overload can reset after cooling.
  • Check power supply: Verify the outlet voltage is within specification and that you are not using an undersized extension cord. Low voltage can cause high current draw.
  • Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear or side panel to expose the compressor and its wiring box.
  • Inspect start components: Remove the compressor cover and inspect the PTC start relay and capacitor for burn marks, cracks, or bulging. Replace any visibly damaged parts with TCL-compatible components.
  • Test capacitor: Use a multimeter with capacitance function to verify the run/start capacitor value matches the rating on its label. Replace if out of tolerance.
  • Check wiring and relays: Inspect wires from the main PCB to the compressor for burns or loose connections. Listen for the compressor relay click when the unit tries to start; if absent, the main board may be faulty.
  • Compressor test (advanced): Measure resistance between compressor terminals (C-R, C-S, R-S). Very low or infinite readings can indicate a shorted or open winding. A failed compressor requires professional replacement.
