Possible Causes
Low room temperature causing coil icing, Restricted airflow, Faulty defrost sensor reading low temperature
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: P1 on many TCL dehumidifiers is a normal indication that the unit is in defrost mode, not a failure.
- Allow defrost cycle: Leave the unit powered on and allow 10–20 minutes for the defrost cycle to complete. P1 should clear automatically when the evaporator warms.
- Check room temperature: Ensure the room is above the minimum operating temperature (typically 41°F / 5°C). In very cold spaces, move the unit to a warmer area.
- Improve airflow: Clean the air filter and ensure there is adequate clearance around the unit. Poor airflow can cause the coil to freeze.
- Inspect for heavy icing: If the evaporator is heavily iced and P1 remains for a long time, unplug the unit and allow all ice to melt completely. Then restart.
- Sensor issues: If P1 appears frequently in a warm room, the evaporator sensor may be misreading. Inspect and test the evaporator temperature sensor and replace if out of specification.
