Possible Causes
Defective compressor start relay or PTC, Failed compressor overload protector, Locked or seized compressor, Low supply voltage or undersized extension cord
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before inspection. Capacitors can hold charge; avoid touching terminals.
Steps:
- Power supply: Plug the dehumidifier directly into a wall outlet (no extension cord or power strip). Verify outlet voltage is within spec.
- Listen to sequence: If you hear a hum for a few seconds followed by a click, repeating every few minutes, the compressor is trying and failing to start.
- Access compressor terminals: Remove rear panel to expose the compressor. The start relay and overload are mounted on the compressor terminals under a plastic cover.
- Inspect and replace relay/overload: Look for burn marks or melted plastic. Replace the compressor start relay/PTC and overload protector with Tosot-compatible parts.
- If problem persists: The compressor itself may be locked or internally damaged, requiring professional sealed system service or unit replacement.
