Dehumidifier shows E5 and will not run the compressor; fan may still operate.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety warning: Refrigerant systems are pressurized and require EPA-certified handling. Do not cut or open sealed system lines yourself.
User-level checks:
- Ventilation: Ensure the dehumidifier has at least 12 inches of clearance around it and that intake and exhaust grilles are not blocked. Overheating can trigger protection.
- Filter and coils: Clean the air filter and gently vacuum dust from the condenser and evaporator coils to improve airflow.
- Ambient conditions: Very low room temperatures (below ~41°F / 5°C) can cause abnormal pressures; move the unit to a warmer room and retry.
- Power reset: Unplug for 10 minutes to allow internal overloads to cool and the control to reset.
Technician-level checks:
- Inspect the pressure switch/sensor wiring and connector on the main PCB.
- Test continuity of the pressure switch (if mechanical) or sensor output (if electronic) per Tosot service data.
- Evaluate compressor amp draw and line temperatures to determine if there is a sealed system issue.
If E5 persists after airflow and environment checks, contact a professional technician; sealed system or control board work is not DIY-friendly.
